With 8 franchises waiting to grab their desired players, Punjab Kings came with the biggest pocket. Though it was a mini-auction, it made history with the highest ever bid in any IPL Auction with Chris Morris being sold to Rajasthan Royals for a mammoth 162.5 Million Rupees.
Royal Challengers Bangalore took Glenn Maxwell for 142.5 Million after a long 14 minutes battle with the Chennai Supers Kings who eventually gave up at 140 million. Kyle Jamieson who came in with a base price of just 7.5 million ended up going to Royal Challengers Bangalore at 150 million.
Another surprise was a 24 year old Australian, Jhye Richardson who was taken by Punjab Kings at a whopping 140 million. K. Gowtham is bought for 92.5 million by the Chennai Super Kings becoming the maximum paid uncapped Indian player.
The big-name Steve Smith has gone to the Delhi Capitals for just 22 million. Another big name who was expected to attract a huge bid was Shakib Al Hasan, but he too had to be satisfied with just 32 million by Kolkata Knight Riders.
Another Bangladeshi player, Mustafizur Rahman was sold to Rajasthan Royals at his base price of 10 million. Riley Meredith started the IPL auction 2021 with just a 4 million base price but was finally bought by Punjab Kings for 80 million rupees.
The Chennai Super Kings bagged Moeen Ali with 70 million and also Cheteshwar Pujara for his base price of 5 million. Sunrisers Hyderabad took in Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman for 15 million and Kedar Jadav for 20 million. Known as ‘The Turbanator’, Harbhajan Singh was taken by Kolkata Knight Riders for 20 Million.
English player Tom Curran was pulled in by Delhi Capitals for 52.5 million rupees. Another Australian, Daniel Christian went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 48 million. Mumbai Indians bought Nathan Coulter-Nile for 50 million.
Pace bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube was bought at 44 million and Chetan Sakariya at 12 million by the Rajasthan Royals. Arjun Tendulkar, son of the Legendary Sachin Tendulkar is bought for the first time by the Mumbai Indians at his base price of 2 million.
Akash Singh, Pawan Negi, Venkatesh Iyer, Ben Cutting, C Hari Nishant, Karun Nair, Saurabh Kumar, Marco Jansen, K Bhagath Varma, Yudhvir Charak, James Neesham, Kuldip Yadav, M Harisankar Reddy, KS Bharat are among others who managed to get a team, in the first round of IPL auction 2021.
A lot of big names such as Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Aaron Finch, Hanuma Vihari, Alex Carey, Kusal Perera, Sheldon Cotrell, Adil Rashid, Rovman Powell, Shaun Marsh, Corey Anderson, Darren Bravo, Rassie van der Dussen, Martin Guptill, Marnus Labuschagne, Oshane Thomas, and Thisara Perera stayed unsold in this round.
